Abstract
The pretreatment and posttreatment levels of serum ¥â2-microglobulin
were measured in 11 patients with leukemia(AML; 9, ALL; 1 and CML: 1) and 9
patients with malignant lymphoma(HD; 2 and NHL: 7) admitted to Chungnam National
University Hospital during the period between March 1985 and July 1986.
The following results were obtained :
1. The serum ¥â2-microglobulin (M : G) levels in patients with
malignant lymphoma and leukemia were significantly higher than in the normal control
subjects. The ¥â2-MG levels after 1 cycle chemotheraphy were
significantly decreased than the pretreatment levels.
2. The pretreatment levels were raised in all of the 9 patients with malignant
lymphoma, and the posttreatment levels were reduced to normal range in 7 of the 9
patients (77%).
3. The pretreatment levels were raised in 8 of 11 patients(72%) with leukemia and the
posttreatment levels were reduced to norma) range in 8 of the 11 patients(72%, except
in 3 patients who failed to obtain remission).
4. In the pretreatment patients with leukemia, a correlation was observed between the
serum ¥â2-MG levels and the initial WBC counts(r=0.78). The above
results suggest that the serum ¥â2-microglobulin level may be useful as a
tumor marker in patients with leukemia or malignant lymphoma.
